What programs, other than Google translator, can be used to make a website multi-lingual? What open source / other programs can be used to automatically translate web pages?

You do realize that automated translation has much room to improve—right? If you want your website to be taken seriously it can’t have confusing language, or barely understandable word usage. At least not without communicating the content is automatically translated. Example:

I’ve read the translation by Burton Raffel many times and I absolutely love it. It remains one of my favorite works of classical literature. Can anyone refer me to other authors who have translated it to modern English?

Can you get into the military if you had not completed the last year and half of highschool?

You can get into the Military with a GED. What you need to do is this – first Go sign up for GED classes. Go there for at least a month, depending on how smart you are, you could have your GED before then, if not, then go there until you think you are ready to take the test. Contact your recruiter at that point and tell him you have made appointment to take the GED test. You can still complete half the recruiting process – which is – PT test, MEPS, and ASVAB, in fact sometimes they let you sign a contract as long as you are on your way to get your GED< just call the recruiter when you have sign up for classess

My boss nags me for taking too long to translate documents, and I’m wondering if I’m really too slow or he’s just unaware of the time a regular quality translation takes.
Opinion of professional translators would be especially appreciated.

Hello! I’m a professional translator from French to English and I can usually translate between 300 and 400 words per hour. A bit more or less, depending on how technical the text is. The average translator can translate about 2000 words per day (if working full-time).

The average page usually contains from 250 to 300 words. Tables can contain more words and other formats (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) can vary significantly from this number.

As translators, we often have to balance time with quality based on how long we have to translate something before deadline. Good luck!

I don’t want to use the word "deconcatenate". Is there another word that basically means to take a series of combined items, and pull them back apart into their original pieces? I’m thinking mainly in the context of computer programming.

Words like split, substring or tokenize would be for splitting a series of combined items but to do it in such a way that the result is a set of strings you had previously concatenated… I don’t think there’s any specific word but I’d probably use the phrase "reverse concatenation"

I have an interview with a recruiter for a translator position(I would be translating Haitian Kreyole). He said that I would be enlisted, but only in the reserves. I DON’T want to go to war or travel too far should I just avoid this job all together?

Well its possible that you could be deployed. You will have to drill and go to bootcamp I beleive. Being in the reserves you may be able to just stay at home and not have to travel… but since you are a translator.. you may be needed in many places that are overseas.. Its hard to tell. It depends on how much that language is needed.
