Are there any American women dating an Albanian man like me?

February 15, 2010 - 8:57 am 3 Comments

Just wanted to get your opinion on how its different than dating your own race. Im hispanic and an American and fell in love with an Albanian and we been together for two years now. His culture, background, and religion is different than mine but we dont let that interfere in our relationship. Just need someone to talk to who can relate to me about albanian men. Thanks.

I am an American married to an Albanian man. We have one little one together. I love my family and my life and am truly blessed to have found my soul mate. His family is wonderful and the best part is that they love me and our little one fits right in with everyone’s babies in the family.

It isn’t usual for Albanians to marry outside of their culture though. They will date but prefer to marry another Albanian as both are brought up differently than anywhere else. The best thing to do is research what Albanian men are like and finding out what Albanian women are like, what is expected of them, etc. That will give you an idea of what he is truly expecting and what his family expects.

If he hasn’t mentioned you to anyone especially his family, that is to be expected. He won’t unless he feels you are the one and if you live in a different country, it will be after you are either engaged or married. They have their reputation to up hold and won’t introduce multiple women that they are dating for being thought of as a man who gets around. If he doesn’t give you any signs that say you are the one, you probably aren’t and are just his girl until he meets an Albanian female; so don’t get to wrapped up in him being the one. Chances are high that you aren’t the one for him.

They are very passionate, romantics who once in love, will never leave their woman. This doesn’t mean they won’t venture, they just will never leave their families. Family is very important to them. They don’t tolerate lying, cheating, talking to anyone they don’t want you to, etc. Honestly is very important to them and they want to know you are theirs, are there for them and the children and not anywhere else. They don’t want you to go out, party, or do anything that is not associated with what an Albanian women is suppose to be and they will not marry you if you don’t comply. So, if your Albanian man allows you to do whatever you want including going out to the clubs, you aren’t the one he is going to marry and he has already decided that. Once they make a decision, even if they realize it is wrong, they won’t change their minds and nothing anyone says or does will change that.

Just from knowing you are from Hispanic descent and having grown up here, you are probably a very strong willed woman who can be loud, out going, and enjoys doing what you want to do and hate having someone tell you what you can and can’t do. If this is you, he isn’t going to marry you. They want a woman who will do what they want and know when to stand up.

They are wonderful men, but you have to have a lot of patience and understand that they are the head of the household, that everything stays within the family and you don’t do anything behind their backs even if it is a surprise and especially if it is something they don’t want you doing.

You have to change your ideas and perspectives a lot.

You also mentioned you are different religions. I can tell you, with everything you have said, he isn’t going to marry you. I know that isn’t what you want to hear; but it is the truth. I strongly suggest keeping that in mind if you continue to date so that it won’t hurt as bad in the end. Realize, he can walk out your front door without anything and never come back. I was very lucky in that my husband and I are the same religion, have the same ideals, and I am willing to be Albanian completely in my attitude and way of doing things. That can be a huge sacrifice to someone who can’t do that.

They have other ones on there to read that would be helpful to you too.

Read about the expectations of Albanian women in the home, in marriage, outside the home, etc. It is very different from what we as Americans have been brought up to be.
