How does grass grow into a tapered point?

December 31, 2009 - 7:18 am 2 Comments

This is just a question that creeped into my bored mind during the robotic chore of mowing my lawn. Obviously, when you cut the grass it is chopped off with a single horizontal blade which leaves a straight cut at the top of the plant. But by the time it’s time to cut the grass again, the plant has grown into a point at the top.

Grass is photo trophic meaning that it grows toward light. Growing to a tapered point allows for more light to reach further down the shaft of the grass.

Go to your Music library, select all of the songs and then click the File tab, click "Create Playlist from selection", once you have the playlist. You can drag it into the iPod icon or Sync it.

How do you get into the new Qantas first class lounge at the Sydney Airport?

December 20, 2009 - 10:31 am 3 Comments

I have a platnium qantas card, but i am departing tomorrow on a flight in economy class. Can I still get into the lounge?

first class lounges are a premium product with any airline; esp. if the route is intl. i might ask politely for a brief tour. let the "gate keepers" know ur only a platnum card status and has heard wonderfull thing in regards to the new first class lounge. since only confirmed first class intl passenger has access to the first class lounge they might denied you entrance. asking a few friendly question has never hurt anyone; besides i would think qantas would be excited to get the word out.

What good paying program can I transfer into after getting an associates in science?

December 18, 2009 - 1:27 am 2 Comments

I’ll be finishing getting my associates in science next fall. I only went into this program to stay in school and to save my family money while going through financial problems. Now, i really want to start looking into possibilities of building on this degree. I know its not much, but I really want to get a career in mind! So what can I possibly transfer into with an associates in science???

If you want to continue with your education, you can go into anything. With an AS degree, you have all of your core/basic college courses completed. You could transfer to a 4 year college and do whatever interests you. You don’t need to limit yourself to science either. If you want to just go for a job, you could look for civil service jobs. Some only require that you have 30 – 60 units in something; doesn’t necessarily need to be in science. If you want to work in a field using your science background, check into biological technician, environmental technician, or a forensic science technician. How far into your pregnancy can you still get a negative test?

December 5, 2009 - 7:27 am 5 Comments

I have been testing for a few weeks now, because I have been having pregnancy symptoms the past while. I have had all negative results. I will be going to the doctor only at the beginning of next week. How far into your pregnancy is it possible to still get a negative result?

Well I guess it depends. Some people can get a positive result sooner then others. I first tested the day before my missed period and it came out negative and I had had it done at a hospital so it was a blood and urine test. I didn’t get a positive result until I was already 7 weeks along.

How does bacteria get into the lungs from the upper respiratory tract?

November 27, 2009 - 10:17 pm 2 Comments

Like in meningitis, how do these bugs travel so well into the lungs?

Certain types of meningitis are unique in that the microbes become suspended in the air and can remain that way for an extended period of time. Disease that spread in an airborne fashion, such as meningitis and tuberculosis, are delivered to your lungs by simply breathing.

For other diseases, such as bacterial pneumonia, the migration to the lungs is more difficult. The trachea is lined with cells that secrete mucous and other cells that have microscopic hair-like projections. Mucous is constantly produced and swept outward. This catches most microbes and expels them from the respiratory tract before they can cause problems.

Diseases make it past this system when we don’t expel the mucous in a timely manner. This can be because we are lying in bed for prolonged periods of time, after a surgery for example, or when it hurts to cough as with fractured ribs or other chest injuries.

There are several other things that can make it easier for bacteria to enter the lungs, but this is what it has to overcome.

How do I get back into a good sleep routine?

November 25, 2009 - 11:00 am 2 Comments

Im not working atm and I am in a terrible sleep cycle.

Currently I am getting up at about 4pm and going to bed at 4am.

Whats the best way to get into a good routine? Should I stay up the entire next day instead of going to bed? Then get to bed at a good hour that night?

When my sleep gets messed up I usually try to stay awake the next day, but it generally takes 2 days to get it right. First day I try to stay awake all the next day but end up crashing by early afternoon and waking up really early. Second day is easier because maybe you woke up at 3 or 4am, and you just need to stay awake until early evening. From there you should be okay providing you keep a routine and get to bed early enough.
