How can i get someone to translate it for me, I’m thinking of singing it as an birthday present for my girlfriend. Please help me out !

Well I can’t forget this evening

唉,我無法忘記今晚

Or your face as you were leaving

或者你離開的表情

But I guess that’s just the way

或許那只是種方式

The story goes

讓我們的故事進行著

You always smile but in your eyes

你總是微笑著,但你的眼裡

Your sorrow shows

顯露出你的哀愁

Yes it shows

是的,它顯露著

No I can’t forget tomorrow

不,我不能忘記明天

When I think of all my sorrow

當我記起我的哀愁

When I had you there

當我擁有你時

But then I let you go

然而我卻選擇放手

And now it’s only fair

而現在,很清楚的

That I should let you know

我必須讓你知道

What you should know

你該理解些什麼

I can’t live

我活不下去

If living is without you

如果生命中沒有你

I can’t live

我活不下去

I can’t give anymore

我無法再付出些什麼

I can’t live

我活不下去

If living is without you

如果生命中沒有你

I can’t give

我無法再付出

I can’t give anymore

我無法再付出更多

How can I translate a foreign facebook page into English?

November 15, 2009 - 11:31 am 1 Comment

I have 2 friends on Facebook who are from Austria, and of course their pages are in German so I can’t understand them. Do you know how to translate foreign Facebook pages into English? Tried SYSTRAN and Windows Live Translator but they didn’t work.

Normally go right at the bottom of the page and on the left it says (im guessing) "Austrian" and then click and select english.. all the normal generic things will translate into english or any language you pick while comments and things like that will remain in their original language

:D

(check your own facebook and you will see on the bottom left of the page English (US) )

I hope that helped!

Is there anybody out there who can help me translate some words from english to latin?

November 12, 2009 - 9:57 am 3 Comments

I’m actually planning on taking a Latin class next year but I need help now! I’m writing a book and I need a few sentences translated into latin. If there is anyone who is great at Latin and wants to help me translate then leave watever contact information you see fit! I appreciate it SO much!

Oh Absolutely. Don’t use an online Translator, very bad idea. I’ve studied Latin for 8 years and really hate the idea that some brainless machine can do better. lol.

The whole idea of internet translators is based around the false assumption that Languages are translatable in the way units of weight can be converted from pounds to kilograms. Languages are so much more complex than that. One must understand the idiom of a language in order to express a thought in it, not simply use a dictionary.

I’d be happy to help in anyway I can :) . You can contact me on Its24mph on Yahoo Messanger, or email me at Its24mph@yahoo.com

What software can I use to translate a game?

November 6, 2009 - 11:41 am 1 Comment

I want to translate a Japanese game into English as it seems it will never be properly translated. I’ve heard there is a program called ‘Atlas’ that will translate some text, but will it translate the text within the game? If not, is there any other way to translate it?

Without actually modifiying the game at a binary level and swapping out all of the textual strings with their english equivelents no.

How do you translate modern English into Shakespeare’s English without a translator ?

November 3, 2009 - 6:46 pm 2 Comments

I know people always say there are no translators, well then how do you translate it yourself ?

Shakespearean English IS Modern English.
What we speak today is called "contemporary English".

I don’t know if translators exist, but the difference between the English of both periods isn’t significant, which makes Modern English ( = Shakesperean English) easy to understand.

The main differences appear in some verb inflections and in the form of persona and possessive pronouns, as well as in possessive adjectives. That’s about it.

Cheers

How much time does it take u to translate 1page to/from English; how many signs does a standard page contain?

My boss nags me for taking too long to translate documents, and I’m wondering if I’m really too slow or he’s just unaware of the time a regular quality translation takes.
Opinion of professional translators would be especially appreciated.

I guess I might be considered slow as well but I believe there is always more difficulty translating from your mother tongue to the foreign or second language. It is also true that quality requires more time, because first you have to understand the meaning of a sentence, and not just know the words. So when giving out an estimate I consider three to four pages per day, because it’s not my full time job and even if it were, after four hours I’m dry.

Hello! I’m a professional translator from French to English and I can usually translate between 300 and 400 words per hour. A bit more or less, depending on how technical the text is. The average translator can translate about 2000 words per day (if working full-time).

The average page usually contains from 250 to 300 words. Tables can contain more words and other formats (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) can vary significantly from this number.

As translators, we often have to balance time with quality based on how long we have to translate something before deadline. Good luck!

How do you translate passive voice to active voice?

October 25, 2009 - 8:35 pm 2 Comments

Specifically, how would you translate the sentence "It can be determined that he is knowledgeable about the technology."

Since there is no real, "active" subject (somebody doing the determining), you can’t use the active voice in that particular case. The "it" is what I like to call a "dummy subject/pronoun", but technically called expletive pronoun or pleonastic pronoun. We have to deal with stuff like this because English isn’t a pro-drop language, in which pronouns can’t be dropped.

Common sentences with "dummy subjects":
It is raining. (Who/What is it???) Spanish (pro-drop): = llueve.
It’s dark outside. (What is it?)
There are 6 cats over here. (There serves as this dummy.) Spanish (pro-drop): Hay seis gatos aquí.

If there were somebody actually determining, you could stick in a real subject. For example: The teacher can determine that he is knowledgeable about the technology.

You can e-mail me with any other questions you have about stuff like this :)
