Is there a reliable online translator from English to Spanish for business correspondence?

January 24, 2010 - 8:18 pm 3 Comments

I need to write a letter to a potential client, but he speaks Spanish much better than English. I’m afraid that may be why he didn’t purchase what I’m offering to begin with- he may not have understood everything I was offering. I have Spanish materials to send him, but I really want to write a letter to go with it. I’m afraid of using an online translator for fear that it will be choppy and come out badly. Any advice?

Just use an offline translation service or a good dictionary, like you said, ALL the online "translators" (I wouldn’t even call them translators!) are utter RUBBISH.

Where can I find an online Greek translator?

January 22, 2010 - 2:59 pm 2 Comments

I searched for one that would translate English into Greek, but the Greek translations being in normal(English) letters, not Greek letters. Does anyone know where I can find a translator like that?

If you’re using google language tools, click on the link ’show romanization’ that will allow you to see the greek text and the transliterated text. Also try an online transliterator (see the link below for greek and several cyrillic transliterators).

What major should I study in college if I want to become a live professional translator?

I want to become a live translator in different languages but Im not sure what degree I should get. Can you please help me?

You can major in Foreign Languages in some colleges.
Usually, you will be able to major in ONE foreign language only. What that will be will depend on your selection of the non-English languages being taught in the school. Or you could ask about it at your school’s "Foreign Language department"?

What are the job prospects to work as Spanish tutor/translator/ interpreter over the weekends?

January 13, 2010 - 4:04 am 1 Comment

Hello All,

I have been based out of Mumbai. I have been learning Spanish owning to my personal interest in foreign languages. However, I am keen to utilize my skills further and want to work part time over the weekends. I would like to have a fair knowledge of the opportunities to work as a tutor/translator/interpretter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should send your resume to those reputable and global translation companies which you can easily find from a google search. From there, the company will then assign jobs to you. Although u will earn lesser as they get a cut, but you will save time looking for our own assignments.

I want to work as someone who can talk to other people in other languages. Maybe working overseas. I do not want to be a translator though. Possibly social psychology?

There are jobs in many countries provided you speak the language some possibilities are Travel Agent, Peace Corps, Language Teacher or Tutor , Air Line Steward, Working on a foreign cruise ship, The State Department, Social Worker or Psychologist Working in an Internatonal Bank working in the military abroad.Good Luck PS If you are fluent in Spanish then there are jobs available in Puerto Rico, Miami, and other areas with Hispanic populations

how to find jobs as a translator or interpreter?

November 25, 2009 - 11:01 am 2 Comments

I am a native Chinese who has been here in the US for 17 years. Since I have lived in both countries for roughly the same amount of years, both languages feel natural to me. I would like to find jobs as a translator or interpreter but don’t know how to get started. Any suggestions are welcome!
Also, I am not a teenager. I am in my 30’s. I am also a permanent resident in the US. So there should not be any legal problems!

I suggest you put together a resume and send it out to companies that might need a translator. Hopefully you live in a big enough city where many people speak Chinese. Send your resume to court houses. You should also try to talk to recruiters, if you look in the phone book under employment they may know of jobs like what you are looking for.

Has anyone invented an automatic voice translator?

November 23, 2009 - 8:34 am 3 Comments

Wouldn’t that be neat if there was some type of Portable Automatic Voice to Voice Translator! Or did someone already invented it? Example of what I’m talking about: Let’s say someone speaks english and wants to translate his or her words into a different language such as japanese. Instead of looking for the words in book or computer, all he/she needs to do is say the word or sentence into a microphone and it automatically translates his/her words in to the Japanese or Korean or Spanish or any other language he/she chooses. Wouldn’t that be cool!

Wow , That’s very cool :)

How much a day for a translator in Argentina Buenos Aires ?

November 18, 2009 - 6:21 am 3 Comments

We need a translator to bring us around for 1week.

Don’t worry about a translator!! Pick up some spanish for yourself!! A week is a perfect time period to jump into some beginner spanish classes at a really great school downtown. Besides picking up the language basics you will also have the benefit of taking advantage of the daily activities and city events the school arranges for all students. Its a really cool place, a beautiful building just a few blocks from the obelisk and easy to get to. It is probably a lot less expensive than hiring a translator and there are a lot of locals who speak english and can help you out. Good luck and I would definitely recommend giving the classes a look! I left the link below :-)
