hmm yeah, but the beauty of german is that its not meant to be precise… translating it does mean that it loses some of its poetry… i think either is fine under the context as part f the greatness of german is that one word can be many things
although i do personally prefer rose red to red rose as it could mean more things this way

But, if you read into Rammstein. Alot of their songs and pro-sexist. This song, while hard to understand correctly. Is summarized that a Man will do anything for his sweetheart, even if he is afraid. Because he loves her and it is customary that whatever she wants she gets. In this case a rose at the top of a perilous mountain. But by following this he ends up dying because his footing gave-way.

(Such as climbing a mountain.) Not because he loves her, but because it is custom. When the song repeats to say:
“At his boots, a stone breaks
Doesn’t want to be on the cliff anymore
And a scream lets everyone know
Both are falling to the ground”
the song is actually going back in time. The girl was never on the mountain, and in fact the boy and the rose are falling. (More comment coming up.)

Even though inspired by those, the meaning of the song can be found in the main, non-repeat lyrics, and the verse of;
“She wants it and that’s fine
So it was and so it will always be
She wants it and that’s the custom
Whatever she wants she gets”
The song is about how a man/boy/teen (Take your pick) will do anything for his sweetheart (In this case a female, as are most of their songs.) even if leading him to great peril and torment.
